Springfield's Spookiest Stories

Springfield's Spookiest Stories
5 Treehouse of Horror Classics
Killer dolls, doughnut deals and one very strange toaster. Halloween in Springfield is never dull.
Halloween in Springfield is never particularly normal. One minute Homer's eating doughnuts, the next he's making a deal with the Devil. Bart's causing trouble (again), and somehow the whole family ends up somewhere even stranger.
To celebrate our Simpsons Halloween countdown, we've picked five favourite stories from five different Treehouse of Horror specials. Which one would you watch first?
01 / TREEHOUSE OF HORROR III · 1992
Clown Without Pity
Season 4, Episode 5
Imagine buying your child a talking Krusty doll, only to discover it's determined to kill you. That's Homer's problem in this brilliantly silly horror story.
While Homer panics, everyone else seems surprisingly relaxed about the murderous toy. And when the solution finally arrives, it's almost insultingly simple.
Why we love it: A tiny, terrifying Krusty doll versus an increasingly desperate Homer. What more do you need?
02 / TREEHOUSE OF HORROR IV · 1993
The Devil and Homer Simpson
Season 5, Episode 5
Would you sell your soul for a doughnut? Homer would. Obviously.
After making a deal with the Devil, who looks suspiciously like Ned Flanders, Homer finds himself in a supernatural courtroom battle over who owns his soul.
Why we love it: Nobody makes a terrible decision for a snack quite like Homer Simpson.
03 / TREEHOUSE OF HORROR V · 1994
The Shinning
Season 6, Episode 6
Homer and the family arrive to look after Mr Burns' mountain lodge. Then Homer discovers there's no television and no beer. Things deteriorate rather quickly.
This gloriously ridiculous parody of The Shining has become one of the show's most recognisable Halloween stories.
Why we love it: It's spooky, chaotic and full of classic Homer moments. Definitely one to rewatch.
04 / TREEHOUSE OF HORROR VI · 1995
Homer³
Season 7, Episode 6
Trying to avoid his family, Homer slips through a mysterious portal behind a bookcase and ends up in a strange three-dimensional world.
What starts as a hiding place becomes a very big problem when he can't find his way back.
Why we love it: Seeing Homer transformed into a 3D character still feels wonderfully odd, even years later.
05 / TREEHOUSE OF HORROR IX · 1998
The Terror of Tiny Toon
Season 10, Episode 4
After Bart makes a very questionable modification to the TV remote, he and Lisa find themselves trapped inside an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon.
Suddenly, being a viewer looks much safer than being part of the action.
Why we love it: Bart and Lisa discovering what happens when cartoon violence becomes a little too real.
Which One Gets Your Vote?
For pure comedy, we'd pick The Devil and Homer Simpson. For the perfect mix of spooky and silly, The Shinning takes some beating.
But that's our choice. What's your favourite Treehouse of Horror story?
